Have you ever asked yourself how an ecosystem for YOUR Identity should look like?
The SHIELD team has recently published the SHIELD-Manifesto with the following set of guiding principles:
- #eIDAS4all
- Open
- Interoperable
- User-Centric
- Trustworthy
- Inclusive
- Inviting
- Transparent
- Viable
- Let’s #GOeIDAS – now!
What do YOU think about it?
What needs to be improved to fulfill YOUR needs and expectations?
1. #eIDAS4all
The overall mission of SHIELD is to design and develop an open, interoperable, user-centric, trustworthy, inclusive and inviting ecosystem for secure digital identities harnessing the power of open source software and transparent community-based processes in order to create a viable ecosystem and push forward the practical adoption of eIDAS-related services in a variety of application domains. The #eIDAS4all initiative represents this mission.
2. Open
A very important guiding principle of SHIELD is openness. This comprises technical aspects related to Open Standards, Open Interfaces and Open Source as well as the fostering of an inclusive open community of open-minded individuals and organisations, which welcome innovation, transparency and collaboration (cf. Principles 2, 5 and 7 in Mozilla-Manifesto, Principles 12, 13 and 10 in OZG Service Standard, Open Government Manifest NRW and Knebel 2020 for example).
3. Interoperable
The SHIELD community is convinced that interoperability concerning protocols, data formats and the semantic meaning of content is crucial for the prospering development of the envisioned ecosystem and hence will take according measures to ensure interoperability (cf. Principle 6 in Mozilla-Manifesto).
4. User-Centric
The SHIELD community emphatically acknowledges the importance of User-Centric Design and Usability to enrich the lives of individual human beings and provide an excellent User Experience . (cf. Principle 3 in Mozilla-Manifesto).
5. Trustworthy
The overall goal of SHIELD to create a trustworthy and compliant ecosystem for secure digital identities immediately implies the fundamental importance of security and privacy aspects, which have already been considered during the design of the solution (cf. Principle 4 in Mozilla-Manifesto).
6. Inclusive
The SHIELD ecosystem, which has been designed by an open-minded community, is designed to be inclusive and accessible for all individuals and organisations (cf. Principle 2 in Mozilla-Manifesto).
7. Inviting
The SHIELD ecosystem invites various stakeholder groups to participate and sustainably fulfill their duties or conduct their individual business successfully. To ease the life of developers, there is a strong recommendation for Open Interfaces, e.g. based on OpenAPI, and Open Source.
8. Transparent
The SHIELD community is convinced that “transparent community-based processes promote participation, accountability and trust.” (cf. Principle 8 in Mozilla-Manifesto).
9. Viable
The SHIELD ecosystem is designed to be successful and viable in the long term. This underlines the aspect of sustainability as well as the need for scalability and the flexibility to accommodate to heterogeneous and changing requirements, which in turn suggests a federated and decentral overall architecture.
10. Let’s #GOeIDAS – now!
On the other side, there is no reason to wait any longer. YOU can immediately join the SHIELD community and start to integrate eIDAS-related services into your applications today! Let’s #GOeIDAS – now!
